Chapter 11: 1. Burns- injuries in which soft tissue receives more energy than it can absorb from thermal heat, chemical, or electricity. 2. Chemical Burn- Damage caused to the skin by chemicals. 3. Electrical burns- Injury caused from contact with electric currents. 4. First -degree (superficial) burns- Burns affecting only the epidermis. Characterized by skin that is red but not blistered or burn through. 5. Second -degree (partial -thickness) burns- Burns affecting the epidermis and some portion of the dermis but not subcutaneous tissue. Characterized by blisters and hot objects, flammable vapor, steam, hot liquid, or flames. 6. Thermal (heat) burns- Damage to the sin caused by contact with hot object, flammable vapor, steam, hot liquid, or flames. 7. Third -degree (full -thickness) burns-
