Art 7B Final Review COMPOSITION Picture plane: the imaginary space in which the picture occurs Picture frame: the limits in which the picture takes place; limits the plane, even though the plane is technically limitless and infinite Passive frame: the image continues beyond the frame, no necessarily constrained within the limits imposed by the frame Active frame: the limits add to the mood and intention of the image within its constraints Negative space: the blank space around the object which creates shapes just as much as the object itself Positive space: the space the object itself takes up Basic shapes: simple relationships between objects within the picture
