Discuss why this occurred and give at least three examples of working class efforts to demand better conditions. Be sure to discuss how business owners and the government responded to these strikes and unrest. 1 paragraph per strike at least Industrialization, people more from the country to the city, saint Monday, co control of time beginning of classes (the great uprising, Haymarket) From the 1870s to the 1890s there were many riots and these were induced because of workers wanting to have higher wages and a shorter work day. In 1877 there was the great uprising which was when workers around the country went on strike because workers were working longer hours and more days yet they werent being paid enough. Railroad employers wanted injunctions which forced workers to back to work yet this didnt work. So govt. gets the army involved and the strike goes on for days and is the most successful strike in history, there were billions of dollars in damage. As a result the workers got the eight hour workday, and many people go out to join labor unions. dollars in damage....
