Julia Hines April 24 th 2016 GTFO Film review Anthropology 316 I decided to watch and discuss the film “GTFO”. I found this movie to strike a fire in me that was actually rather unexpected, considering I am not very familiar with the gaming world and what it entails. However, I do support men and women being treated fairly and equally in any “world” that there is. The film started off with a quote from a female gamer. “Peoples behavior conforms to the ideas that we have about the world” with this being said, she stated that most people see that “gamers are men” and this is because of the conformity we have accepted over time. How did this industry grow to be so masculine? There’s a simple equation to solve this. Add a 96% male gaming population, minus respect for women; add a deep sense of entitlement and the math adds up to a male dominant industry that is hard to crack. I actually was curious to hear the male opinion of this controversial issue. I decided to interview my boyfriend Marcus asking him a couple questions that would help me understand the psychology behind why men treat women online in such a derogative way.
