5. Discuss the role of partisan politics in foreign affairs during the Washington and Adams Administration. Washington being the first president had to set a example for the future presidents. Not only that but he also need to keep the country whole and out of trouble. So in his foreign policy, he chose a neutral stance, to especially keep out of Europe’s trouble due to the fact we were weak. But the French revolution and a war with England will make this difficult to accomplish. During Washington’s presidency John Jay will be sent to France to negotiate a treaty. Jay’s treaty will be known as a weak treaty to the people. However, it will keep the US out of war with Great Britain, and solve many issues left over from the revolution, in addition to providing ten years of peaceful trade between the two countries. Although this treaty will complete many objectives like preventing us from going to war and increase trade, Jeffersonians thought it aligned the nation too closely with Britain and
