HA 115 Listening Exercise. Exercise is required.   1. Pair up with another person , preferably someone from our class.  If you must do the  exercise with someone not in the class, be sure to explain to them the purpose and the  groundrules of the exercise. 2a. find a private place to talk. Block out an hour or more.  Clear your mind to focus on the  activity. 2b. Select one person to talk first, and the other person to listen first.  The talker should  spend at least 20 minutes just talking  about whatever is going on in your life, and  having the other person simply listen and paraphrase closely.  Then switch roles. 3. Groundrules for exercise: Listener: a. maintain confidentiality.  DO NOT SHARE WHAT IS SAID TO YOU  WITH OTHERS.  AT ALL. b. be genuinely supportive and helpful. c. do not judge the other person. d. try to see things from their point of view. e. do not give advice during the listening exercise (after the session is OK,  but try the exercise WITHOUT advice.) Speaker: a. share only what you are comfortable sharing. b. try taking the opportunity to work on something that has been on your
