2Activity Log Reflection EssayThe questions to consider that I chose for the module all had to do with how to apply tolerance in the classroom and not just learning about what tolerance is. The questions that I chose to answer were How does a culturally relevant curriculum validate the cultural identity of students? What is culturally relevant pedagogy? How does a culturally relevant curriculum validate the cultural identity of students? What are some ways that educators can have high expectations of their students, while acknowledging their individual needs? How might you make time to better understand your students, even in a climate that favors high-stakes test preparation over student-teacher relationships? Why is it important to openly discuss issues that are seen as having racial dimensions? How does “stereotype threat” bring race to the surface in (a) understanding student achievement and (b) fostering productive student-teacher relationships? How can educators invite and encourage the involvement of families? How can teachers facilitate the development of academic English for ELLs?What do teachers need to keep in mind as they raise the learning expectations for studentswho are not as confident in their capabilities as learners? What are some strategic approaches to using group learning in the classroom? What are some ways to incorporate complex problem solving in basic-skills assignments?I chose this question because they all focused on what examples teacher could use in the classroom to teach tolerance. Now that I am aware, I can make a conscious effort to change the way I may address or unknowingly offend my students. In module 2, I researched about culturally relevant pedagogy and how implicit bias can affect student’s achievement abilities. I also researched how important it is to know your students
3and to take the time to learn about your students so that I can make my content culturally relevant. Che Ahmad et. al. (2017) states, that knowing your students will build positive relationships, and allows the teacher to adjust classroom activities to make the content more relatable to their students’ lives (p.58). By doing this, I can be more effective in my students being able to master my content. Implicit bias has been something that has been interesting to
