Writing Assignment 3 In, What is Marriage?, Van Wolfson gives a clear definition of what he thinks marriage is. He believes that marriage is an important personal commitment and choice that belongs to a couple that is in love. It is an act of companionship, commitment and caring between two people. Wolfson doe not believe that this commitment should be a sacred thing between only a man and a woman, but between two people who love each other. In a country where all people are supposedly equal two women, or two men have the same right to be married as a man and a woman. In, It Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good, Rick Santorum relies heavily on a nuclear family to define marriage. He feels that marriage should be between a man and a woman. He also feels that marriage is a very important aspect in not only the lives of the two people getting married, but also their children.
