So why? He is a god of healing, but also of revenge ( Iliad ) Apollo Healing and Purification Prophecy Music Revenge/Punishment Initiation of youth into society Beautiful hair Leto bore Apollo on the rocky isle of Delos, the only place that would accept her. Some say she was not accepted because of Hera’s wrath; some say Apollo prophecied to bring destruction. Delphi-panhellenic cult – people came from all over Greece Homeric Hymns – from many different authors Marsyas challenges Apollo to a musical contest. Marsyus loses. Apollo has him skinned alive. Ouch. Apollo can be a very harsh/mean god.
