Taking care of your body is crucial in the development and success of your college career.Often times, colleges students get so caught up in juggling a social life, work life and an academic life that they’ll do whatever it takes; spreading themselves so thin without thinking about the repercussions of not taking care of your mental and physical health. I myself, am guilty of putting school, work and a social life above my physical and mental health; but I later realized that if I didn’t take care of my body, I could not reach my full potential. When thinking of wellness in college students, the three most prevalent health issues that stick out in my mind are; substance abuse, safe sex and maintaining a healthy diet.College students turn to drugs and alcohol mainly due to stress, course load, curiosity and peer pressure. 80% of students are also likely to abuse alcohol; this is the most often abused drug as well(Dworkin, 2013).
