Human Physiology Chapter 13 – Anatomy of the Nervous System Study Guide This is the material you should know for the exam. Be familiar with the components of the CNS and PNS. What protects the CNS? Where is CSF secreted and what are the functions of the CSF? What cells are responsible for the formation of the blood -brain barrier? What is the function of the blood- brain barrier? Be familiar with info that passes through the dorsal and ventral roots of the spinal cord. What type of information is passed through the ascending tracts? Descending tracts? Which tracts send sensory info from the body to the brain? What about info from the brain to the body? Recognize the function for the cranial nerves (number and name of nerve). Are the nerves sensory, motor, or mixed? What does sensory vs. motor vs. mixed indicate? What is a reflex and what is the difference between a spinal, cranial, somatic, and autonomic reflex?
