ID’s Magna Carta The Magna Carta is one of the most important documents in history because it lead to the constitutional laws of today. Basically this document took away a lot of the powers the King had and limited the rest, while being put under the law as opposed to above it. Moreover it restored powers back the Barons and Clergy. The Document came to existence to the irresponsibility of King John I because his economical demands exceeded that to which he was allowed. This obviously angered the people but amongst those people were the nobles. They didn’t see why they should let the king take as he pleased so they forced him to sign the Magna Carta in 1215. It laid the framework for our governing system today. For example, if the president is making a decision that the house and senate don’t agree with, they will veto it, similar to how the king was dealt with. Also similarly, it seems as only those with power were able to challenge the king. Oath of Fealty An oath of fealty was an oath sworn by a vassal of the king to support him in his military efforts. This vassal, or combat man, would receive a unit of land called a fief. This system of land exchange for military support was called feudalism. This system created many small militias rather than an actual army, but kings liked the system since they didn’t have to pay their vassals out of their own pocket. armies of today. When signing up for the military you receive a signing bonus which is what the fief was, which is probably where the idea came from. Also, similarly, Kings saw these feudal armies as disposable since they were not properly trained professional soldiers. Joan of Arc Joan of Arc was born around 1812. She was thought to have heard voices from god telling her to lead the French troops to victory. After a defeat at the battle of Agincourt where Henry V defeated the French, Joan of Arc convinced the French to let her lead their army to victory.
