Andrew Ficklin FDINT215 5/15/17 Century of Humiliation 1. One of the most important facts about the Opium War which I would say would be the most significant would be the economic battle between China and Britain. China was purchasing more goods from Britain than it was selling which cause a trade imbalance for China. The second fact about the Opium War would be the actual war that was caused from the events and tensions between the countries. The British entered and attacked Zhoushan which only lasted about 9 minutes but cause much destruction, and the Chinese governor drowned himself in humiliation. The Chinese were behind in military warfare when compared to the British. And thirdly while there was contention between the two countries a major social and moral problem for China would be the smoking habits that were formed from opium pipes. There we many addicts in the country and cause many social problems.
