Students that miss the first week of lab will be dropped from BOTH lab AND lecture (since they are co-requisites). Required Materials Text: The required text is Tro: Structure and Properties with Modified Mastering (or any other college chemistry book) Title = Structure & Properties with Modified Mastering Author = Nivaldo J. Tro ISBN = 9780133884517 ALEKS: Everyone will need access to the “ALEKS” online homework system. Information and directions are under Class Information in blackboard – follow the handout! A calculator: capable notation and logarithms - NO programmable or graphing calculators allowed on tests. NO devices capable of reaching beyond the walls of the classroom via Internet or via telephone will be allowed during the exams (eg. Cell phones, computers, iPads, tablets, etc.). You will need to purchase a basic scientific calculator for this class. NO exceptions will be made. I will not allow anyone to take an exam making use of the disallowed items listed above. Use the following calculators as a model for what is acceptable: Scientific TI-30X IIS model calculator or Casio fx-115MS . These calculators and those like this generally cost $12 or less and are locally available. See me with any questions. REEF polling app: If you have a smartphone, you can buy an access code from the bookstore. If you don’t have a smart phone, there will be an option to check out an iPod touch for the semester (for free). You can also buy a physical clicker in the bookstore or if you have a i-clicker from another class, you can use it in this class too. You will need to connect your smart phone to BB for grades to transfer.
Course Grading: Grading will be based on two aspects of the class – learning/practice and then assessment 1) Learning/Practice – worth 100 pts a) Homework (5pts): 1% of your grade - Out of the full semester you will need to hand in 5 Hmwks.
