The article I read was “What Is Implicit Self-Esteem, and Does it Vary Across Cultures?”
by Carl F. Falk and Steven J. Heine from the Personality and Social Psychology Review.
The
article discussed implicit self-esteem (ISE) as the fusion of self-concept with automatic
evaluation of ourselves.
The article focused on developing alternative and novel ways of
defining and measuring ISE as well as possibly cultural variations in the motivation to pursue
having a high self-esteem and positive self-image.
The researchers used meta-analysis to determine their results, so they did not conduct an
experiment or study themselves.
Most of the methods used in the different compiled results were
self-reports of East Asians and North Americans to determine whether there was a significant
difference in self-enhancement motivation, or the desire to have a high self-esteem.

methods besides one showed evidence for a cultural difference as East Asians tended to attribute
