Celine Cottenoir PHYS 1305 Der-Gao Lin 20 March 2017 LASIK eye surgery Instead of wearing eyeglasses or contacts, many people have chosen to turn to laser eye surgery. Issues like near or far-sightedness can be resolved through laser eye surgery. Some procedure involves altering the cornea, the “dome” like structure on the outside of the eye. Others involve implanting a lens into the eye. During the LASIK procedure, an optometrist creates a flap over the eye with either a blade or a laser. The optometrist then removes a layer of tissue within the cornea, and then the tissue can then heal. In cases of nearsighted patients, the LASIK surgery is used to flatten a patient’s cornea that is too steep. In cases of patients experiencing far-sightedness, the cornea can be adjusted so that it becomes steeper. Although the LASIK surgery allows people to not have to use either glasses or contacts, but does not always give the patient 20/20 perfect vision
