At first, I am confused what does interdisciplinary really means and how it affect a certain problem in our environment and our society. However, now I’ve learned what really interdisciplinary is and how it involves both the academic disciplines and a specific field of study. As what Meeth (1978) stated, for me, interdisciplinary studies are intended to solve problems by focusing on more than one concentration and possible solutions. My chosen wicked problem is “The Violence against Women” because I think this issue is very alarming and it is considered as a critical problem throughout the world. As of now, according to the World Health Organization (2016), the two main violence that women are experiencing are the Intimate Partner Violence and Sexual Violence against women. Scope of the Wicked Problem There are 35% of women worldwide who have experienced whether physical or sexual abuse, World Health Organization (2016). Violence against women is not only a social issue, it is also considered as a major health public problem, economic, and environmental problem throughout the world. Aside from that, 17% of women in Tanzania were reported experienced forced sexual abuse, 24% in Peru, and 30% in Bangladesh. There is no doubt, the entire world is facing this very alarming issue. Road Map to What Follows In this paper, I will discuss and explain the causes of the violence against women occurring nowadays. Readers will be able to know what the possible solutions are and what are the possible preventions with this issue then, they will learn how to avoid experiencing abuse and violence with the other people and how to help those women who are suffering from injustice regarding this critical problem. Overall, this paper will open our mind about what the truth behind this issue. Statement of Purpose & Research Question The goal of my wicked problem is to inform young and adult women as well the men throughout the world how serious violence against women is and how severe the effects of it in the lives of a woman and in our society.
