EXSC – 205 Lab 1 I. Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to get ourselves acquainted with statistical analysis of data utilizing calculations and Excel. Initially, we analyzed a couple of scenarios to understand how to state a research and null hypothesis. We then looked at data of two different variables to determine their correlation. II. Results: 1. a) H i: Lower percent of body weight made up of fat is associated with higher number of hours per week spent exercising. H o : There is no correlation between percent of body weight made up of fat and the number of hours per week spent exercising. Best guess: There will be a negative correlation near 1.0 (-1.0). Explanation: If a person spends more time exercising, than it is reasonable to assume that his or her’s percent body fat will be reduced. Therefore, this indicates a negative correlation since these variables are considered to be inversely related. b) H i : Higher number of free throws made (out of 20 attempts) is associated with increased number of hours per week spent practicing free throws. H
