Adequate ventilation = o Soft effortless breathing o O2 sat between 95-100 o Skin coloring is appropriate for patient ethnicity o Thoracic expansion is symmetrical o AP diameter is 1:2 o And other normal assessment findings Symptoms that can point to impairment: o Cough o SOB o Chest pain when breathing Vital signs that show possible impairment: o Inc RR o Dec SaO2 o Inc HR o Inc temp Pale skin coloring will come first then cyanosis ABG: o pH: 7.35-7.45 o SaO2: 95-100%//infants: 40-90% o PaO2:80-100//infants 60-70 o PaCo2: 35-45// <2 years: 26-41 o HCO3: 22-26 CBC = RBCs, Hbs, Hct, and WBC o RBC: oxygen carrying capacity of blood o Hb: reflects RBCs number and determine o2 and co2 carrying capability o Hct: % of blood volume that is RBCs o WBC: measures of each leukocyte (neutrophils, eosionophils, basophils, monocytes) Elevations in WBC occur when there is inflammation due to infection Decreases in WBC occur with certain cancers or as an adverse effect of chemical or radiation therapy
