In this case, climate change refers to a change in earth overall climate, which could be evaluated by a change in the average temperature, or in the precipitation pattern. Earth’s climate is constantly changing, experiencing warming and cooling periods some that last thousands of years, however, with the ability to measure past temperatures and the current greenhouse effect of polluting gasses the global and individual climates are changing. Global Climates and Temperatures There are different methods for measuring global temperatures and past global climates. One of the methods they use is satellite surveillance which provides information as far back as about twenty years. Instrumental climate data also provides limited information, going back into the 19 th century.
