Steven Arias 4/25/08 NS 206 Bonus essay An Analysis on Monique’s Death There are a couple different reasons why Monique died during childbirth. Monique initially got pregnant because she was advised to be taken off her birth control. The pills were hurting her back, so the doctor told her that it was not safe for her to continue to take the pills. Since she had no contraceptive, she became pregnant with a fourth child. Unfortunately her husband, François, did not allow her to seek pre-natal care until her seventh month of pregnancy. She also suffered from anemia during pregnancy, often having dizzy spells. Consequently, when she was administered a shot to help her dilatation, she had a negative reaction and passed away. If there had been adequate emergency care at the clinic she was in, Monique may still be alive today. Looking at the different perspectives, we can see that many of them apply to Monique’s tragedy. Clinically speaking, had Monique not been taken off birth control,
