Unformatted text preview: Steven Arias NS 206 Reflection 3 4/17/08 Different Approaches to Fight Malaria: Biological vs. Economic Malaria is one of the biggest global health issues facing us today. There has been much research in trying to understand the disease. Even though we know a lot about the biology of the disease, we havent known enough to develop a cure. Fortunately there are many professionals seeking ways to eradicate the disease. Two of these global health leaders are Stephen Hoffman and Jeffrey Sachs. These two men are taking two different approaches in trying to solve the malaria epidemic. Where one is taking a biological perspective, the other is taking an economic perspective. Dr. Stephen L. Hoffman is the CEO if a biotechnology company called Sanaria. The companys goal is to produce a malaria vaccine. Sanarias team of researchers are basing their vaccine on an irradiated version of Plasmodium falciparum .
