You can tell the difference between if the donor is homozygous or heterozygous by looking at the alleles given per gene. If the donor has two identical alleles for a given gene then it is homozygous but if it has two different alleles for a given gene then it is heterozygous. 6. How can you tell if a sequence variation occurs naturally in the population or comes from an error in sequencing? You can tell if a sequence variation occurs naturally in a population or comes from an error in sequencing by examining a variety of sequences that came from that population and see if they have any similarities and what their differences are. That way you will have a example sample size and can make an accurate judgment to if it is an error in sequencing or if the variation is a trait of that population. 10. How does the electropherogram of a heterozygous individual differ from that of a homozygous individual? A heterozygous individual electropherogram will differ from a homozygous individual’s electropherogram because it will have two color humps coding for the same nucleotide number. Usually one of the humps is smaller than the other, but two will exist in the same location whereas in a homozygous individual’s electropherogram only one hump will exist for the same nucleotide number and only one color will be visible. 11.
