Literature review According to Donnell, Kim, and Kasten (2007), balancing work and family are the greatest challenges faced by modern families. In the 1970s, more than two thirds of mothers with children aged six and below stayed at home. Currently, nearly two thirds of mothers with children aged six years and below are in the work force (Donnell, Kim, Anne, & Kasten, 2007). Similarly, more than two thirds of households in the US are dual-earner families. The most challenging role, however, is not caring for the young children while at the same time taking work responsibilities, but the increasing role of caring for aged parents. Donnell, Kim, and Kasten (2007) suggest that; the government needs to provide a reliable solution for aging Americans to maintain their independence at home. This includes everything that helps in shopping, cleaning, taking medications, and doctor’s appointments. The research conducted by Donnell, Kim and Kasten (2007) reported that families and individuals in the US are taking the role of caring for aging parents on their shoulders, with the government doing little to help in this. What the research by Donnell et al (2007) suggests is that the government should be making efforts to help modern families deal with the problem of caring for aging parents while at the same time carrying on their professional roles.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
