SE and Passive Structures : 1) Passive SER : The birds were released by Carlos at the end. ser (any tense) + past participle (# and gender) + por + agent (doer) Los pájaros fueron sueltos por Carlos al final. 2) Passive SE : The birds were released at the end. Similar to above but there is no expressed subject Se + third person singular or plural of the verb- The verb agrees with the NOUN that follows it. Se solt ó el pájaro al final. Se solt aron los pájaros al final. 3) Impersonal SE : you/one/they Se + third person singular (only) of the verb People/They/One speak Portuguese in Brazil. Se habla portugués en Brasil. Se cree que Obama va a ser el candidato democrata.
