Matter A.Pure Substance (a) Elements- building blocks (i) Atoms ie: Na, K, Fe (ii) Molecules ie: Cl2, Br2, I2, N2, O2, H2, F2 (b) Compounds - 2 or more di ff erent elements chemically combined in specific proportions ==> have subscripts to designate # of atoms of each element. ie: N2O, H2O, C12H22O11, C6H12O6 (i) Ionic compounds -particles are ions ie: NaCl, MgF2, etc.
