Hamlet Act 3 Scene 1 Polonius tells Ophelia to walk around lobby so they can act out their plan Polonius and Claudius hide Hamlet enters contemplating suicide “to be or not to be, that is the question” Ophelia says she’s returning the tokens of love Hamlet gave her Hamlet denies giving them to her Hamlet criticizes the true meaning of beauty, the wretchedness of humankind He denounces Ophelia and women Hamlet leaves Polonius and Claudius emerge from curtains Claudius will send Hamlet to England hoping he will get over his troubles Polonius still believes Hamlets madness comes from loving Ophelia Polonius tells Claudius to send Hamlet to Gertrude’s room after play where Polonius can spy Scene 2 Before play, Hamlet tells players how to act the parts Horatio and Hamlet talk and he tells him to watch Claudius during the play Since the play is based on Claudius killing the king and seducing the queen, they feel he will shows signs of guilt if he is guilty
