Week 2-Discussion 1 I would describe the inequalities experienced by people working in various industries across the country to be one of the most serious problems that people faced in the early 1900’s. These inequalities have to do with the hazardous jobs that people had to do combined with long hours and unsafe working conditions. In addition to all of these things; people were paid unfairly and the gap between the very rich and the poor was growing more and more. This was such serious problem because it affected the lives of so many Americans and caused a lot of social unrest. For instance; in 1911 over 120 workers in a factory burned alive because the doors to their workrooms had been locked preventing there escape. ( The Progressive era, Hawksworth) American’s at the attempted to solve these problems by addressing them at a state and local government level.
