Orr 1 Taylor Orr Professor Stallings Human Sexuality 2306-S01 25 January 2016 The Issue of Pedophilia: Is the Practice Really Harmful? According to personal inquiry, findings, research, and conducted interviews, radio commenter Laura Schlessinger urges to denounce the studies conducted by the APA (American Psychological Association) and further state claim that pedophilia is indeed harmful to all children. The article of her prime focus “A MetaAnalytic Examination of Assumed Properties of Child Sexual Abuse Using College Examples” published in July of 1988 in the Psychological Bulletin is thus further investigated and reviewed following a letter she had received from a father named Don that expressed his disgust toward the article’s report. According to her conclusion, the article, despite having a scholarly claim, held a sort of ignorance in terms of conducting true psychological research with a motivation to liberate pedophiles from their disordered “label” according to the DSM, much like homosexuality, and thus normalizing and accepting pedophilia as a social norm. The APA’s studies was even described as “bogus psychology” (202) by a Dr. Gerard van den Aardweg of Holland, a psychologist she personally telephoned over the matter, when reviewing the article for himself.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
