Intro to sociology-Framing is the way we see the world- not just in terms of our visual sights, butin terms of perceiving, understanding, and interpreting events that occuraround us-What are those sociological forces limiting your behavior?-What are people’s realistic choices-Choice vs constraint-Choice is making a decision when faced 2 possibilities-Constraints are those things that limit you-Consensus vs conflict-Consensus-the starting point of this idea is to look at individual and individualare the living breathing realities of the social world and whatever happens inour society is because of the motivation of individual people pursuing whatworks for them. The more individual contact with somebody the more you willlike with that person. The more you interact with somebody the more youbecome like that person. The more people that come together will conform toa common standard. The reason we interact is that we all get something out ofit and that is social approval-Assumption # 1: Society is open and fair. Society is a collection of individualspursuing their self interest-Assumption #2: These individuals are influenced by things of tradition, bynorms. They are interested in keeping order and not rocking the boat. JustFollow the rules. They want to preserve order. People are influenced by norms.-Assumption # 3: cooperation is critical and key. We get along with each otherout of mutual self-interest.Common interest or aspects among all people.-Assumption # 4: society in its natural stateis one of balance. Maintains a stateof equilibrium. Order and stability-Sees the absence of violence and conflict as evidence of a strong agreementbetween people. Working together to make sure society is together-Consensus theory-Society is fair and open-Society is collection of individual-People closely follow the norms and traditions-People cooperate with one another to get things done-Focus on peoples common interest-Emphasis on order and stability
-Conflict seen as abnormal-Conflict-Is the origin of everything-Process of domination by the higher in the social class. The people at the topdominate the ones at the bottom-Assumption #1: Unfair and unequal. Society has structural inequalities builtinto it results in a differentiable allocation of resources-Assumption # 2: social classes, arranged hierarchically. As a status hierarchy inwhich social groups are classified in…. society is organized in social classesarranged from top to bottom. Arranged by race, gender, age, education, health-How profit happens. Where it comes from? Exploitation of labor, rich exploitingthe poor. Not working together-Assumption #3: Discord among social classed. Deemphasizes cooperation.Looks at things like power, privilege, recognition. Says these things are in shortsupply. People buy from these.-Society Is out of balanced. There is a power struggle happening all the time.Buying for scarce resources. There is always a power struggle going on.-Conflict is normal. Violence is normal since these things happen all the time.-
