One of the five elements of emotional intelligence is self-awareness. What behaviors would someone with strong self-awareness demonstrate within the context of leading and managing groups? Provide an example. Huber (2014) defined self-awareness as the “ability to read one's own emotional state and be aware of one's own mood and how this affects staff relationships”. Self-awareness is important because when there is a better understanding of ourselves, we are then empowered to make changes and build on areas of strength as well as in areas where we would like to see improvement. A good leader has the ability to be flexible along with empathetic. Good leaders should also have a strong emotional, interpersonal, and social intelligence skills that will contribute to the effectiveness of their leadership (Huber, 2014, p. 6). An example would be someone who encompasses self-awareness would show behaviors such as
