Lo Department of Engineering Education Engineering Exploration (ENGE1024) Week 6 Workshop; Fall 2006 Water Tower Experiment Introduction In this simple fluids experiment, you will record observations showing change is water height in a conical tank with respect to time as water drains from this tank through an orifice at the bottom. This data set (i.e., water height vs. time) will be used to fit an empirical function using the method of selected points. Please recall problem set #3 that included problems related to this experiment. The data you created as part of problem set #3 will be compared against the actual observations you made in this experiment. Objectives The objectives of this experiment are to: I. Generate an experimental data set to develop an empirical relationship to describe rate of water drainage from the upper tank through an orifice into the lower tank. II. Use the method of selected points for developing the empirical relationship discussed in (I). III. Compare and contrast the observed experimental data and the data predicted based on intuition/ judgment in problem set 3.
