John Carr IPWS Professor Peters 6 August 2008 Encouragement Through the years, I have taken many English classes where no teacher has ever stood out of the crowd. From the crazy ones to the relaxed ones I've always felt that they never really cared about how the student does in their class. I never had a real motivation to write and would always do a paper the night before. It wasn't until my junior year in high school when I met a teacher that cared about his students. Mr. Hamas, my English teacher encouraged me into succeeding. Mr. Hamas, a short guy with short jet black hair and a neatly trimmed beard, assigned us a modern day Carpe Diem poem. We had to write a poem on what we could do if we seized the day as well as refer to the literature that we read. When he told us about this poem I shook my head. I didn't want to write a two-paged poem, but at this time in the class I wasn't doing too well and needed a very good grade. He encouraged me with his own poetry and words and the feeling was great that someone believed in me. I pondered a few subjects for this assignment and if I wrote a sexually-based poem I
