Nicole Engelhuber Peter Silvestri Biology 111 25 October 2016 The Effects of Bicarbonate on the Photosynthesis of Spinacia Oleracea (Spinach): Bicarbonate Increases Rates of Photosynthesis Results The results in this experiment show that photosynthetic activity increases when more bicarbonate is infiltrated into the solution. The leaves placed in solution #1, as demonstrated in Figure 1, were placed in a 0% bicarbonate solution and did not float at all in the twenty minutes they were observed. This resulted in no standard deviation as shown by the asterisk on Figure 1. The leaves in solution #2, which was a 1% bicarbonate solution, floated after an average of 7:13 minutes with a standard deviation of 34.5 seconds. Solution #3 had a 2.5% bicarbonate solution and its leaves floated after an average time of 6:12 minutes with a standard deviation of 35.3 seconds . Solution #4 had an average time of 3:08 minutes before the leaves rose to the top with a standard deviation of 5.6 seconds.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
