Group of office holders, candidates, activists and voters who identify with a  group label and seek to elect to public office individuals who run under that  label “…organized groups seeking political power, whether by democratic elections  or by revolution” ~Duverger “An organization which has at least one of its goals, the placement of its  avowed representatives in government offices.” ~Ken Janda Why do we have parties? It depends o on the type of political system party society BUT… o in all cases political parties represent a means by which individuals with  similar political viewpoints and the desire to achieve political office  organize in order to increase their chances of gaining direct political  power.
