WEEK 2: ASSIGNMENT 1.1
Should the legal drinking age be lower than twenty-one? Partaking in consumption of
alcoholic beverages legally when one becomes of age is considered to be a “rite of passage” into
adulthood for many. Being able to purchase alcohol and enjoy it in public is an awesome thing,
and when a person is responsible and old enough, I think that it is okay to do so. With that being
said, I feel that the legal drinking age should remain at twenty-one. I feel that lowering the age
would be irresponsible because it would put a potentially dangerous substance into the hands of
people that are less likely to make responsible decisions while using it. Alcohol abuse is a very
real problem in the United States, and I feel that lowering the age will only aggravate this
problem.
In contrast, others believe that the legal drinking age should be lowered. These people
