Unformatted text preview: Barack Obama is the junior senator from Illinois and a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination in the 2008 U.S. presidential election. Senator Obamas recent win of the Iowa caucus put him ahead of Senator Hillary Clinton in the polls. Senator Clinton is also a Democratic candidate in the upcoming election. Senator Obama seeks to draw a larger portion of the under 30 crowd to the polls in November and believes strongly in universal health care by means of making it affordable for everyone. According to Senator Obamas official campaign webpage, he was born in Hawaii and was raised by his mother and stepfather after his father returned to Kenya after finishing his education at the University of Hawaii. He also lived in Indonesia for a few years. He attended the University of Columbia and received his J.D. from Harvard School of Law in 1991.
