Josh Mittleman Intro To Sport 5-9-08 Career Goals Paper A degree in Sports Management from The University of Massachusetts at Amherst will only further benefit me with my future endeavors in the Sports Management field , particularly in becoming a general manager for a professional baseball team . My dream job has always been to become the general manager for my favorite sports team , the New York Mets. I have had this dream job in my head for many years , possibly ever since I started to learn about the front office side of baseball. Finding out that there was a college major called Sport Management was an awesome day in my life . Ever since I found out that UMass was one of the best schools in the country for the undergraduate Sport Management program I have wanted to come here . In ten years I hope to be the general manager of a professional baseball team , hopefully the Mets . My duties would include contracts and negotiations with current players and free agents , management of the entire front office, analyzing the effect of sabermetrics in baseball , scouting and recruiting college and high school players, keeping a good relationship between the Major League team and all of its minor league affiliates , and creating scouting reports on all opposing teams and players . To break into the industry I started as an intern at ESPN . I worked at their headquarters in Bristol , Connecticut. I helped out in all departments doing minor jobs like updating stats during live games , putting video clips together for highlight reels, and

helping the anchors put together their notes . Because of my extensive knowledge in baseball I worked mostly with the baseball department , even though I worked with all sports at one point or another
