Q1. The troughs are just west of the Rocky Mountains (ID-UT-AZ line) and in New England. The ridge is located over much of the Midwest and northern plains. (2.0/2.0) Q2. Using the dewpoint map to find dewpoints of 50-55F or more, there is sufficient moisture from the Gulf Coast stretching northward into the northern plains and upper Midwest. (2.0/2.0) Q3. Using the wind (third) map, the most obvious wind boundary stretches northward from north Texas into NE Nebraska (2.0/2.0) Q4. Severe weather occurred from north Texas up into Kansas (note: you did not have to correctly forecast this to get credit for this answer, as long as you used logic - many people forecast severe weather for the upper Midwest and that is just fine) (2.0/2.0) Q5. Shear is important for two reasons: one, it sets up a rolling motion which gets translated into a rotating motion once it becomes part of a storm updraft. Second, it tilts the storm updraft, which separates the downdraft part. Together, these make for long-lived rotating storms, which produce high-end severe
