Saavedra 1Juana SaavedraProfessor SandersLIT 331June 2016Country of My SkullA debates surrounding Krog's use of other people's testimony in her book “Countryof my Skull.” Country of my skull is a non-fiction book by Krog Antijie, which was published in 1998.Basically, the book addresses the findings of truth and reconciliation commission (TRC) of theSouth Africa. TRC is the body in charge of examining the human rights issue after the apartheidrule in South Africa, and headed by Bishop Desmond Tutu. In the narration of the victims toapartheid rule, the author, Krog, use quite a complex and thrilling style which is not common inmost authors, which compose of combining autobiography and other people’s testimony, andfictionalizing testimonies which brings about a more vivid presentation of the scenario beingnarrated. Krog is an analyst and an orator at the same time.In the book, Krog, the author combines autobiography and other people’s testimony,which brings a good mix of the events captured in different part of the country. The aspects, arequite technical in presentation, given that the experience of people during the apartheid rule werecollected country wide, giving people a room to express their disappointment as well asmistreatment. If they were presented in each personal report the information would have seemedtoo raw and the art of narration lost. Such events compose of the beating, rape, and bombingswhich sounds more realistic when narrated by the second person perspective. The book sounds
