Ethnocentrism and Cultural Relativism Ethnocentrism --------------- Cultural Relativism ethnocentrism: tendency to examine the world through our own eyes/lens and believing in the “rightness” or “normalness” of our ways which leads to examining others as strange, inferior, unnatural or even inhuman cultural relativism: Attempting to examine cultures in their own terms, Or understanding the “why” through that culture’s lens; Does their behavior make sense in that culture’s terms? (tension between C.R. & human rights/ i.e. limits to C.R)

Ethical Relativism Is a related term A Definition: belief that all rights & wrongs are relative to time, place, and culture– thus no moral judgments can be made (compared to C.R. there are no limits )
