Excretory System Excretory System Removes waste from the blood Blood is being filtered (filtrate: Plasma or fluid component of blood,  ions, amino acids, sugars) Some filtrate is diffused back into the interstitial fluid and some gets  reabsorbed into the capillaries Reabsorption Proximal tubule o In cortex of kidney o Most solutes found in filtrate gets reabsorbed by the proximal  tubule o Ion channels, active transport, and osmosis allows reabsorption  into the capillaries o Peritubular Capillaries in the cortex and vesa recta capillaries in  medulla Loop of henle o Descending Osm in filtrate is not equal to the Osm in the interstitial  fluid in the medulla Concentration gradient of solutes is created in the  interstitial fluid of the medulla Three Routes to do this: Route One o Thin segment of ascending loop of  henle: Permeable to sodium and
