(America Crossing The Border) The United States of America is the land of opportunity and a country that is an answer to those who seek a better future. Why then do we have so many enemies around the world? It may be surprising but to the world, America is similar to a bully who can eat from any first grader’s lunch box without consent. Such concept was first put to use in 1848 with a “bite” from Mexico, when the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was introduced. The treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was put forth to halt the bloodiest battle between US and Mexico on February 2, 1848. Due to aftermath of the war and instability within Mexican government resulted in favor of the treaty. The agreement allowed U.S. to share a border with Mexico at the Rio Grande and the Gila River, also gifting America more than 525,000 square miles of Mexican territory, which includes the current day Arizona, California, western Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah. Mexican’s were plainly strained to accept a treaty that was mainly in United States interest. The treaty triggered a massive setback to the Mexican government and the people who where displaced from their national identity. “In the U.S.-Mexico War of 1848 there was considerable support in the U.S. for the acquisition of all Mexico” (People’s tribune). It is evident the treaty that assisted America to take almost half of Mexico’s territory was not enough to fulfill America’s “appetite.” To my understanding United States deepest intent was to occupy Mexico and their sources for self-interest. Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was a motive to inaudibly take control of Mexican territory without respecting their obligations to Mexican’s. Therefore I find the actions taken by United States of America to be illegal and unjust. Durrani
