Before the women civil rights movement, married women were considered legally dead in the eyes of the law, the were not allowed to vote, married woman had no property rights, husbands had legal power over and responsibility or their wives, women were told when to have children and how many to bear, women were not allowed to enter professions such as medicine or law, and continuously black women were stripped of their self-confidence, dignity, and self-respect, and they were forced to totally depend on men. When the Black Panther Party arrived; young black women sized an inspirational moment for all black women to seek changes from the civil rights struggles. The hidden promise for equality
