When Founded: In 1957 AS THE C OMMITTEE FOR A SANE N UCLEAR P OLICY ; (became Peace Action in 1993) Founder: Lenore Marshall Inspirational Purpose: To work for an environment where all are safe from violence and war. Founding Moment: Reacting to the Eisenhower administration's heavy reliance on nuclear weapons development and procurement, as well as to a general anxiety about the destabilizing effects of the arms race, the Committee for a SANE Nuclear Policy was founded in the New York apartment of Lenore Marshall in 1957. Mission Statement: For 50 years Peace Action has worked for an environment where all are free from violence and war. We understand that long-standing global conflicts require long-term solutions, and that US foreign policy has a lasting effect on the world. We are working to promote a new US foreign policy
