Discussion In this week discussion, there would be a descriptive analysis for two chosen variables one categorical variable and a continuous variable. Both variables are taken from the General Social Survey dataset. First, we would be analyzing the continuous variable. The variable name is colscinm the variable label is NUMBER OF COLLEGE-LEVEL SCI COURSES R HAVE TAKEN. The mean of this variable is 5.69, the mode of this variable is 2, and the median is 3. The best way to measure the central tendency is utilizing the median. It cannot be the mean because as Frankfort-Nachmias & Leon-Guerrero (2015) mentioned: “When the distribution is skewed, the mean may give misleading information on the central tendency because its value is affected by extreme scores in the distribution” (p.121). According to this, there are only two measurements to use to describe the central tendency which is the mode and the median. Later we could use Frankfort-Nachmias & Leon-Guerrero (2015) explanation to get to the conclusion
