Discussion: Estimating Models Using Dummy Variables For this week’s discussion, three variables were assigned to be assessed. The selected variables are from the Data Set (2014) General Social Survey; two of these variables are independent variables and one is a dependent variable. The independent variables are divided as the first one is measured at a nominal level and the second one is measured at a scale level. The dependent variable is measured at a scale level. A dummy variable from the nominal independent variable was created to successfully perform the analysis. The dependent variable is sei10 with the label of R's socioeconomic index (2010) this variable is measured in scale level. The independent variables are first hrs2 with the label of NUMBER OF HOURS USUALLY WORK A WEEK this variable is measured in scale level, the second variable selected is sex with the label of RESPONDENTS SEX; this second variable is measured in a nominal level therefore there is the need to create a dummy variable from this variable, because if it is utilized directly as it is the analysis is not going to be accurate.
