Stephanie Meneses Professor Parayno ASAM 20-CCSF 11-12 15 October 2008 Midterm terms Tydings McDufffey Act - It was passed in 1934 by Congress giving the Philippines their independence. The Tydings McDuffey Act’s main purpose was to exclude Filipino immigration to the U.S. The Philippines would not be a U.S. territory anymore so they could not get natural citizenship. The act limited Filipino immigration to 50 persons a year. Treaty of Khangwa - Meiji Restoration of 1868 - It was Japan’s plan to modernize, industrialize and Westernize Japan to protect itself from European and American Imperialists. Gentlemen’s Agreement Act - Japan restricted emigration of Japanese labors. Although, it allowed parents, wives, and children of laborers already in America to emigrate. HSPA - (Hawaiian Sugar Planters Association) This association governed the sugar industry in the islands of Hawaii. Ghadr Party - A party organized by Asian-Indian intellectuals in San Francisco. Ghadr means revolution. It was started after the Thind decision that excluded them from America and
