PERSONAL WORLDVIEW & BUSINESS ETHICS Watson 2 STEP 1 To what extent should personal religious beliefs impact our decisions about business ethics I do not believe there is a way that ones underlying personal beliefs and ethics do not impact their decisions in the business world. At times it may not be at the for front of ones mind, but the underlying beliefs and thoughts of a person will affect every area of their life. Religious beliefs often come from ones own understanding of the importance of life, and how and why humankind exists. For beliefs, ethics, and principles to stem from such a deep subject I think it is clear that ones religious beliefs should, and do, affect business ethics. I believe it is important for people to stay true to who they are even in a business environment, ethics included. To what extent do your personal religious (or non-religious) beliefs about life impact your sense of business ethics and personal decision-making? As a Chrsitian I continually seek Christ and pray that He guides be in a way that enables me to seek Him first, and to honor Him in all areas of my life, not box Him in a corner for specifically religious purposes. Specifically in concerns with business ethics, my religious beliefs allow me to choose right and wrong, and what I sit fit as appropriate ethics and principles for a company to produce the best environment for it’s employees and customers. Does it seem odd to connect every belief we have about life back to what we believe about God? I do not believe it is odd to connect every belief about life back to what we believe about God. From a Christian perspective God has brought us into existence and He is the reason we are here, if anything that knowledge should motivate us to make sure we are connecting everything
PERSONAL WORLDVIEW & BUSINESS ETHICS Watson 3 back to Him. A persons purpose and meaning in life will always dictate their decisions, personal and business. Article 1- “What is a worldview and why is it important to me?” Has your answers to either of the first two questions changed after reading article 1? After reading Article 1, my answers have not changed because they reflect the information shared in the article. Just as the article presented, the foundation of ones beliefs is what affects all other things. Having God as my foundation means my business ethics will reflect my trust in Him.
