From past weeks, where we discussed about “on being sane in insane place” by Rosenhan and the Stanford prison experiment by Zimbardo and colleagues; today I want to report about elementary education experiment: Robert Rosenthal from Harvard University and Lenore Jacobson from South San Francisco Unified School District coauthored this experiment. Choosing from 18 different classes elementary schools, they randomly assigned twenty percent of the kids to experimental condition. However, the teachers were told that those in the experimental condition had unusual intellectual gain, measured according to a scale developed by someone else. To be clear, treatment was just being assigned to experimental group, thus that’s nothing more than being identify as an above average kid.
